A big Thank you for your donation to HLFPPT through Global Giving! Through your support, HLFPPT has been able to initiate its program for sponsoring deliveries of women from poor and marginalized communities in the state of Uttar Pradesh in India.
This month, you helped us save life of Rekha and her baby girl.
Rekha and Ravi Dewakar belong to a very poor family and live in Shahpur village, district Kanpur of the state of Uttar Pradesh. Ravi, the sole earning member of the family, earns his living by doing laundry work. His wife Rekha is just twenty years old and pregnant with her first child. Though exited about her pregnancy, she got very worried when during check up her doctor told her that baby was not in normal position and this may result in complications during delivery.
Shares Ravi “I hardly earn enough for two of us and this news of complication was worrisome for me. To be not able to provide for properly for my baby gave me restless nights. I didn’t have enough savings to afford a safe delivery”.
When they shared their plight with Merrygold’s outreach worker Mamta, she considered their case under the project. “They live in a one room rented place with no assets on meager monthly income of USD 80. Global Giving provided the much needed support to them. I feel very happy that I could do something for them!”- shares Mamta.
Rekha with Ravi’s and Mamta’s support attended ANCs regularly and took proper care of herself. As a result, Rekha delivered a health baby girl in last week of June.“I am grateful to Global Giving and project’s donors for sponsoring my pregnancy. Nobody in my family has ever delivered in a good private facility like Merrygold. My baby is so lucky! I plan to name her “Anjika” it means fortunate.
