Now that Joy Baby Care is in Safe hands

I would like to sincerely thank you for your generous support/donation through Global Giving to TIBA’s Joy Baby care project this year. Your donation was put towards:

  1. Refurbishing Joy Baby care; our day care centre was previously made of old iron sheets. It used to get cold for the children. It did not look child friendly. On some occasions, it used to get muddy, due to soil erosion during rainfall. Today the house is fully refurbished; the interior part of the wall has been covered up with plywood, and painted with bright colors. The home is warm and cozy.
  2. Buying 2 large cots with wipeable mattresses for babies.
  3. Buying educational toys to enhance the development and learning of our children
  4. Buying TV set with a video player for the children’s sing along sessions.
  5. Buying a cooker, microwave, and other equipment.
  6. Hiring a trainer who trained our caregivers and some single mothers on child care, child development and management skills.
  7. Hiring a visiting medical practitioner for medical check-ups. Parents are informed about preventive measures against sicknesses. Parents whose children are found to be unwell are also advised accordingly. This has helped to reduce infection among babies and monitor the health of children. Parents are no longer exposing their children to medicine unless advised by the Doctor.

In short, your generous donation has given Joy Baby Care a big leg up for which we and our families are very grateful.
Now that Joy Baby care is in safe hands, we are focusing on two new appeals.
Our next appeals are to benefit Abundance School and Give me Another Chance
Abundance School in the Kabiria slums of Nairobi aims to provide a safe, nurturing space for the children where they can flourish emotionally and intellectually, healing from the challenges they and their families face. It aims to inspire them, enable a mental uplift and equip them with education for the future.

Unfortunately Abundance School is heavily under-resourced. We have 80 children at 5 different learning levels, all learning together in a 300 sq feet structure made of iron sheets. There are only two regular teachers who are devoted to bringing a lasting change in the lives and opportunities of these children. We need money for equipment, books, room dividers and extra teachers.

Give Me Another Chance (GAC) aims to reach out to people in the Kibera and Kabiria slums of Nairobi who have been diagnosed with HIV/AIDS and who are in denial and struggling to accept the diagnosis, with very negative consequences for themselves and their families. We aim to support them to access medical care and to acquire inner strength and knowledge to enable them to manage their condition, to find work and also to overcome the stigma and discrimination they face in the community. We will then, in turn, go on to train them as ‘Ambassadors’ to support other people in similar situations and also work to reduce stigma in the community.
