This project will build 35 safe, private, and hygienic latrines for girls in rural Ugandan schools to improve attendance, dignity, and health. Lack of proper sanitation forces many girls to miss school or drop out, especially during menstruation. This project ensures girls can stay in school confidently and learn in a safe environment.
Many rural schools in Uganda lack adequate and safe sanitation facilities. Existing latrines are overcrowded, unhygienic, or unsafe, with little privacy for girls. This leads to absenteeism, especially during menstruation, and increases the risk of disease and school dropout. Without proper facilities, girls face embarrassment, discomfort, and health risks that disrupt their education and limit their future opportunities.
This project will construct 10 gender-sensitive, clean, and private latrines designed specifically for girls in 10 rural primary schools. Facilities will include proper ventilation, handwashing stations, and menstrual hygiene management spaces. We will also provide hygiene education and train school staff on maintenance. These improvements ensure girls feel safe, respected, and able to attend school consistently.
This project will build improved latrine facilities in 10 rural schools, benefiting over 2,500 girls. Expected outcomes include reduced absenteeism, improved hygiene practices, increased retention of girls in school, and better overall health. Girls will attend school with dignity and confidence, leading to stronger academic performance and long-term empowerment.
