As we approach in the midpoint of our project, I am thrilled to share the progress we have made in promoting sustainable energy practices in the communities surounding the Rwenzori Mountains National Park. Our team has been working tirelessly to train tourist guides and cooks in producing biomass briquettes from local agro-waste products, reducing waste pollution and deforestation caused wood and charcoal use. One of our beneficiaries from the project trainings conducted has transformed their cooking practices with the briquettes. " I used to spend a lot of money on charcoal, but now I make my own briquettes from waste materials", they say, "it's not only cost-effective, but it's also helping to protect our beautiful mountains."
We have made significant strides in reducing waste pollution and promoting sustainable energy practices. To date, we have trained over 50 tourist guides and cooks, who have produced and used over 1,000 kg of biomass briquettes, reducing our carbon footprint and supporting conservation efforts. We have also established a briquette production center in the park, providing a hub for locals to learn and access sustainable energy solutions. Our project has not only reduced greenhouse gas emissions but also created new income opportunities for local communities. We have seen a significant reduction in wood and charcoal use, with many guides and cooks switching to briquettes as their primary fuel source.
Our project has created Impact in numbers
50+ tourist guides and cooks trained in biomass briquettes production
1,000+ kg of biomass briquettes produced and used.
200+ tress saved from deforestation.
500+ people benefiting from improved air quality and reduced waste pollution
Our project is a testament to the power of community-led conservation efforts. We are grateful to our donors for their continued support, which has enabled us to make a tangible impact in the Rwenzori Mountains National Park. We are committed to transparency and support, and look forward to sharing more updates on our progress.
We will continue to train more guides and cooks, expand our briquettes production, and promote sustainable energy practices in the Rwenzori Mountains National Park. We will also explore new opportunities for community engagement and income generation, ensuring the long term sustainability of our project.
Thank you for being part of our journey.
