Mimi is 30 years old and a house wife. Her husband is a rickshaw puller and they have two children. Mimi started studies at HRDP’s literacy classes in the village near her house. Her son also studies at HRDP’s primary school in class 1, one of the new primary school classes started in 2017. She shared her stories why she started learning at HRDP adult literacy school:
“When I was child, my parents did not like for me to go to a primary school to learn Bangla and English. They sent me in an Arabic school to learn Arabic and Quran. But now when I want to help my children with their homework, I cannot help them. So I thought if I want to help them first I have to learn and then I will be able to help them, otherwise I cannot help them anymore. I decided to request admission at HRDP’s adult literacy school. Also I thought it is not only for helping my children but it is also for my own development. I want to start a small business after my course and I want to help my family financially."
HRDP provides all the literacy books and materials free of cost and is running these nine month courses in rural villages for around 300 women, such as Mimi.
Thank you for supporting women like Mimi. Please share this story so we can help more families in rural Bangladesh.
