Our teachers at the Believe in Me school began their year together, reviewing and creating common assessment and lesson plans. One of the lessons for our youngest students is to cut out paper alphabet characters. You could see the focused concentration they used to cut them themselves.
Our teachers have also noted this month that their students seem to be more devoted to their studies. They spend more time during the school day using the library, meeting in little groups and enjoying Khmer and math studies the most.
Our Catch Up Class students took their seond marking period exams and the results speak for themselves! Six of our students are now able to join their grade level peers and participate in the grade level activities and lessons. It really is amazing how quickly students can grow when they are in a safe environment, they have full bellies, and have plenty of supportive adults surrounding them. We can’t wait to see all six of these students shine in their new classrooms.
Carol is a young lady who has struggled because learning was very hard for her as an older student in the third grade. For a while, she preferred to leave school and go straight to work. Recently, she joined our Believe In Me Catch Up Class and is blossoming. Learning is still hard but the extra practice sheets and time that she has been putting into her her work are really making a difference. I think that seeing other students her age working hard to learn has had a very positive effect on her.
Thank you so very much for your continued dedication to the students of our Believe In Me school. You are changing their lives each and every day with your gift of education.
