Dear SOTENI Supporters and Friends,
For more than two decades, the SVH Mbakalo Health Center has served as a vital source of healthcare for rural families in Bungoma County, Kenya. Established over 20 years ago, the clinic was created to address the lack of accessible healthcare services in the surrounding villages, where many residents previously had to travel long distances to receive even basic medical care.
Today, the facility operates as a Level 2 health center, providing essential primary healthcare services to the community. These services include outpatient care, antenatal and maternal health services, child wellness clinics, immunizations, safe deliveries, laboratory services, and health education for patients and families.
So far this fiscal year, the SVH Mbakalo Health Center has served 2,195 patients, offering care to mothers, children, and families who rely on the clinic as their primary access point to healthcare. For many residents in the region, the clinic remains one of the few places where they can receive consistent and 24/7 affordable care close to home.
Through partnerships with other health organizations, the clinic has also been able to expand specialized services. In collaboration with Christian Health Association of Kenya (CHAK), 125 community members received reading glasses during vision outreach activities, improving daily life for many patients struggling with untreated vision problems. Additionally, through the TIKO program, 730 women and families accessed different family planning methods, helping support reproductive health, family wellbeing, and informed health choices.
As the needs of the community continue to grow, SOTENI is working toward an important milestone: upgrading the facility from a Level 2 clinic to a Level 3 health center. This upgrade will significantly expand the services available to the community, particularly in maternal and emergency care. Plans include strengthening the maternal unit, adding inpatient beds, and improving diagnostic capacity so that mothers and patients can receive more comprehensive treatment locally.
Recent improvements have already begun to strengthen the facility’s capacity. With the support of SOTENI leadership and partners, the clinic was able to secure a piped water connection, an important step in improving sanitation, patient care, and day-to-day operations at the facility.
The vision for Mbakalo Health Center is to continue expanding services so that families in rural Kenya can access safe, dignified, and reliable healthcare close to home.
Your support helps make this possible. Thank you for standing with SOTENI and the communities we serve.
