CASE STUDY 1 : STORY OF LASYA

Name                            :  Lasya

Age                              :  4 Years

Diagnosis                    : Wilims Tumor

Address                       : Kakinada, East Godavari Dist

Family History:

Lasya is daughter of Mr Subramanyam. She is 4 years old. Lasya’s mother is 21 years old and father is 25 years old. Both work as agriculture labour. Their whole family is dependent on  agriculture only. Lasya is their only child.

Medical History:

Initially Lasya was suffering with not passing urine and motion properly. After a few

Days, the parents identified the problem and immediately showed her to a private hospital in Kakinada. In the Kakinada private, the child underwent all investigations like CT scan, X-Ray, Ultra Sound, CBP etc. After the investigations reports, doctors found that child had tumor in the stomach. Doctors advised that the family that child should undergo surgery. The doctors removed the tumor from her stomach. After completion of surgery, doctors referred to MNJ Cancer Hospital in the Hyderabad. In the MNJ Cancer Hospital, we did all the investigations and finally confirmed that child had cancer (Wilims Tumor).

After confirmation of diagnosis, doctors started the treatment for the cancer (Wilims Tumor). Lasya has completed her chemotherapy treatment successfully. Now she is doing her 3 months follow up visits, post the treatment.

Psycho Social Issues:

In the beginning Lasya’s parents were worried about the child’s situation and scared about the disease. They were going through a lot of anxiety about the child and counselors played a key role in convincing them about the child’s prognosis. They face financial hardships because they had spent a lot of money for treatment, during the child’s treatment in private hospitals.

IMPACT played a vital role in their family- where they were guided for the proper treatment by the counselors and all team members in the hospital.

Future Plan

Now Lasya’s parents are very happy because Lasya has completed treatment successfully without any delay. Her mother is happy that the child stands cured.

CASE STUDY 2 : HEMANTH WITH ACUTE MYELIOD LEUKAMIA

Name                           : Hemanth

Age                              : 7 Months

Diagnosis                    : AML

Address                       :  Khammam (dist)

Family History:

Hemanth is a 7 months old. He is from Khammam district. His father is studying PG B.Ed and his mother is in 10th class. Family depends on agriculture only. Hemanth is the first child of his parents. Their financial background is stable.

Medical History:

Initially Hemanth was suffering with fever and visible patches on the body. His parents

took him to a local RMP doctor. The doctor could not diagnose his problem. So he referred the kid to another private hospital in Khammam.

The children’s hospital did all the investigations. After the investigations, doctors suspected cancer. So the doctors talked to Hemanth’s parents personally and advised them to go and take treatment at MNJ Hospital.

But Hemanth parents took the child to Suraksha Hospital. At Suraksha Hospital too, they were advised to go and take treatment at MNJ Cancer Hospital. After all investigations at MNJ, it was confirmed that Hemanth had AML.

Psycho Social Issues:

Father felt that the mother was unable to understand anything. So he refused to inform her about cancer, and hid things from her. But Counsellor educated the mother regarding the disease. Counselors found that Hemanth’s mother could accept the situation and was able to handle it.

IMPACT always feels that both parents should be educated with the prognosis of the child. Slowly parents come to accept the truth and look to fight the disease.
