Project Name : Run a 70-bed child cancer ward in India
Project ID : 19108
Story of little brave heart - Kiran
Name : Kiran
Age : 5 years
Diagnosis : HDL Cancer
Address : Peddatupra, Shamshabad
Family background:
Kiran is a five year old boy going to Kindergarten in a small village in Rangareddy district. His father works as a laborer and his mother works as a daily wage agriculture worker to make both ends meet.
He has one elder sister studying in 4th class.
Kiran’s family is economically backward and is living hand to mouth.
Medical background:
Kiran was suffering from fever and so his parents took him to a local hospital in their village. But even after taking medication, his fever persisted. After few days Kiran’s father had observed a small lump on his neck. Suspecting something serious, they immediately visited a private hospital in Shamshabad where he was checked and was then referred to Niloufer Hospital in Hyderabad.
In Niloufer Hospital , Doctor checked the child and prescribed investigations like CBP, LFT & RFT, X-ray & FNAC. Doctors then studied the reports from investigations and referred Kiran to MNJ Cancer Hospital in Hyderabad suspecting of cancer.
In MNJ Cancer Hospital, medical oncologist saw the child and prescribed few more investigations including CT Scan & Bone marrow etc. Medical oncologist then studied the reports from investigations and finally confirmed that the child has HDL cancer.
Kiran was admitted to IMPACT pediatric oncology ward and has been assigned to an IMPACT Counselor.
Psycho Social Issues:
Kiran’s parents were very worried when told about cancer and could not come to grips with the harsh reality of the disease and its prognosis. They had lot of apprehensions on how their child would cope with the treatment.
Moreover his father had to leave for home town to take care of his sister and work to be able to meet the financial needs. While father was facing financial burden, mother was facing the emotional burden of taking care of Kiran all by herself in an unfamiliar place and situation.
During the initial phases Kiran was very weak and he was unable to stand and walk after chemotherapy. Upon proper diagnosis and medication by pediatric oncologist in IMPACT Kiran has become strong and his health condition has become normal.
Current Status :
Kiran has successfully completed the chemo treatment and his health condition has become normal.
Now Kiran’s parents are very happy and relieved that the treatment is completed successfully without any problem and are profusely thankful to pediatric oncology Doctors in the ward.
Kiran wants to go back to school and study well to pursue his dream to become a Police officer.
