A project addressing the lack of nurseries in Italy with a new parish nursery in Rome, supporting 15 children between 6-36 months old and their mothers, all of whom are in difficult social situations, through parenting support and caregiving to the children. This will respond to the urgent social need of day care whilst incorporating the need for the integration of mothers and their babies from marginalisation to inclusion into society allowing mothers in economic need to return to work.
The area has a high number of immigrants of a young age. These immigrants face problems of integration. From a social point of view, the area is characterised by the phenomenon of female solitude caused by three factors: firstly, family conflict - a high divorce rate in the area. Secondly, the greater longevity of women and lastly the high number of female immigrants who are too often deserted by their partners resulting in single parent households.
It will be a free service for families in economic difficulties, providing a safe place for the babies to be daily and throughout the year whilst the mothers are able to return to work. The nursery will provide guidance and mentoring sessions for the socio-economic reintegration of mothers, assistance in finding affordable housing, parenting guidance and language training for immigrants. This will by carried out by a team of volunteers.
To respond to both the social needs of the mothers, by giving them the opportunity to go back to work and provide for their family, and the children by providing early childhood education and care. For the mothers, they are socially and economically reintegrated and have a chance to bring themselves out of their poverty through tutoring and mentoring sessions to help them become self-sufficient, socially oriented and and supported in their parental role.
