Risk mitigation in urban settlements in Cartagena

After finishing the first phase of the project, that it's to say the participatory workshops in 4 neighborhoods of Cartagena de Indias, with your support and the Grupo Social Fundation's support, we start the second and the third phase.

In fact, we realize at the end of the workshops that the community cannot act without the public entities and that we had to work to reach the articulation between the community and the authorities.

That is why we decide, in a second phase, to program others 3 work reunions with the 4 comunities we work with to specify the work in order to redact a document that explains all the process, the discoveries and the proposition of risk reduction solutions made by the communities. This document has already 425 pages and it will be publicated at the beginning of the month of juli, very soon !

With this document, we start the third phase, that is the presentation to the competent entities and works reunions with them to find posibilities of articulation between them and the communities. We already present this work to : Secretaria de Planeacion, OAGRD, EPA, CORVIVIENDA, Cooperacion Internacional, Valorizacion Distrital, Gerencia de Espacio Publico, Aguas de Cartagena, Afinia, PACARIBE, and we have programmed presentations with CARDIQUE, Alcaldia Local y Secretaria de Infraestructura.

The objective of this phase is that the empirical knowledge of the community could be integrated in the actualization of very important plans for the city like the Urbanistic Devlopment Plan (POT), the Risk Managment Plan (PDGRD) or the Climate Adaptation Plan (Plan 4C-PIGCC), for the public policies to be adaptaded to the reality of these neighborhoods. Another objective also is that the propositions of risk reduction solutions could be considerated and integrated in action plans of the diferent public entites, to overcome the lack of knowledge and action in this area.
