Developing Independent Living Skills

By Nour Elmasry | Digital Marketing Specialist

As part of the Rise Up Project, Alhassan Foundation continues to expand and enhance its services for children who use wheelchairs. The Foundation believes that providing the right wheelchair is only the first step toward empowerment, while lasting impact is achieved by equipping children with the skills they need to become more independent in their daily lives.

During the reporting period, the Foundation continued implementing its Intensive Mobility Rehabilitation service. Children participate in a multi-day rehabilitation program at the Foundation’s rehabilitation center under the supervision of a specialized medical team. Each child receives an individualized rehabilitation plan designed according to their physical abilities and specific needs to ensure the best possible outcomes.

The program focuses on developing essential mobility and independence skills, including:

  • Safe transfers between the wheelchair and the bed.
  • Getting up independently after a fall.
  • Climbing a single step or using stairs according to each child's abilities.
  • Learning safe mobility techniques within the home and how to navigate everyday situations.
  •

In addition, children receive training in activities of daily living, such as dressing and undressing, using the bathroom independently, and moving safely around their homes without continuous assistance. These skills help increase their confidence and ability to perform daily tasks independently.

Beyond improving physical mobility, the program plays an important role in strengthening children's self-confidence, promoting independence, and encouraging active participation within their families and communities. These outcomes contribute significantly to improving their overall quality of life.

Alhassan Foundation remains committed to delivering this service through the Rise Up Project, believing that independence is a skill that can be developed through the right rehabilitation, continuous support, and access to appropriate opportunities. Through this program, the Foundation continues to empower children who use wheelchairs with the skills and confidence needed to build a more independent and dignified future.

We want to thank every donor or supporter who helps us to achieve this success and we urge you to continue supporting us in our cause, our hope, our dream through subscribing to monthly donation which helps us secure enough funds to help more wheelchairs users and their families.
