Kicking off a new program year

By Janice Chan | Foundation and Grant Writer

Foundation staff have been busy launching another year of Badges for Baseball and Healthy Choices, Healthy Children—now with a new Fitness Edition—in communities around the country.

The Healthy Choices, Healthy Children curriculum helps mentors talk to kids about the choices they make and teach them how to think through the consequences.  While Healthy Choices, Healthy Children is usually taught alongside a team sport, we wanted to help our mentors and coaches incorporate fun and fresh ways to keep kids moving during all types of activities.

With the help of experts in youth development, fitness, and medicine, we developed the Fitness Edition as an additional tool to help our mentors and coaches.  We piloted the Fitness Edition with a few program sites last fall, and this spring we are rolling it out at all our sites.

While it seems like it was just winter, the school year will be wrapping up before we know it!  And do you know what that means?  Time for summer camp!  Our first camp session will be at the end of May.  We can’t wait to share some great pictures and stories with you!

You can learn about all of the Foundation’s activities (like our Youth Development Park initiative) by visiting our website, signing up for our e-mails, liking us on Facebook, or following us on Twitter (@CalRipkenSrFdn).
