Al-Nouri and Al-Hadid - Rehabilitation and Organization of El Souk is a community-led initiative under the Tripoli Peace Initiative, funded by the United Nations' Peacebuilding Fund and implemented by IOM with SHIFT and the Municipality of Tripoli. The project aims to rehabilitate and organize the historic market to enhance its appearance, restore its heritage value, and revitalize economic and social activity.
El Souk in Al-Nouri and Al-Hadid is experiencing urban deterioration despite its historical and architectural significance. This decline has reduced its attractiveness, decreased visitor flow, and negatively impacted traders' activity and the overall use of the market space, weakening its role as a vibrant commercial and social hub.
The project will improve the organization and physical appearance of the market by enhancing its infrastructure and reinforcing its heritage character. These upgrades will create a more attractive and functional space for traders and visitors, supporting increased economic activity and better use of the public area.
The rehabilitation of El Souk will strengthen local economic activity, increase visitor engagement, and restore the market's cultural and historical role. Improved urban conditions will enhance the area's vibrancy and attractiveness. In the long term, the project will contribute to social cohesion, urban revitalization, and sustainable stability in the neighborhood.
