This summer, Coral Bay Community Council launched its series of educational meetings to facilitate hurricane preparedness among the community. These preparedness meetings offer an opportunity for community members to connect with neighbors, building social connections that will be beneficial during or after a storm.
Knowing that emergencies and disasters can be scary for children, CBCC believes that it is important to equip our youngest population with hurricane preparedness information and tools to help keep them and their families safe. At the first hurricane preparedness meeting, CBCC distributed folders for children that included information on how families can prepare for a natural disaster. The folders included handouts and activities that discussed hurricane safety, developing a family communication plan and creating an emergency kit. Collectively, the resources provided tools to help kids prepare and remain safe before, during, and after a disaster.
