Revitalizing Children's Activities

During this quarter there were no projects or activities funded through this Children's grant program.  Although several important activities happened with other funding and through other programs.  The Boys and Girls Club on St. John got officially funded (well!) and the paid employee leader is our volunteer Board Member responsible for many of our previous childrens' efforts.  The children are receiving even more than we could give now through that program and some other larger all island programs that are being regularized.  

A barrier that we face in Coral Bay is that we have even fewer public facilities than directly after the hurricanes of 2017, as several restaurants have closed that used to lend their facilities for public and children's events.  Thus it has become harder to provide "one-time" fun events for children.    Also, the planned preschool has not been able to complete its physical repairs and reopen even with our help.  

Not covered by this project, but an important marker forward for us all, was the first sailing of Silver Cloud, an 1899 vessel moored in Coral Bay since 1989.  She lost all her masts in the 2017 hurricanes, and finally -- with much community volunteer help -- is remasted and sailing again.  Many children, families and individuals have enjoyed a daysail on her over the years - donated by the owner.

Coral Bay Community Council is undertaking its planning for our 2023 agenda and may open a new project or fundraising effort within GlobalGiving this year that can draw on a broader donor base.
