Project Report | Jun 16, 2026
Strengthening Farmers' Access to Credit

By Michaelle M. | Project Assistant

Although progress may appear slow, Lambi and APTEKKA have continued to make meaningful advances despite the challenging conditions in Haiti and the country's ongoing difficulties. During the first quarter of 2026, Lambi met with members to further develop plans for training beneficiaries of APTEKKA and disbursed the funds needed to sustain the agricultural credit program.

During the first quarter, the following activities were carried out:

1. Meeting

A meeting was held with 30 members of APETKKA. During the meeting, representatives from Lambi and the organization reviewed key project documents and discussed:

  • Updated project objectives;
  • Implementation strategy;
  • Planned activities;
  • Monitoring and evaluation mechanisms; and
  • Roles and responsibilities of stakeholders.

2. Establishment of New Project Committees

In addition, Lambi and APETKKA established the committees responsible for project implementation and oversight:

  • Project Management Committee – 3 members
  • Credit Committee – 3 members

These committees will support the execution, monitoring, and management of project activities.

3. Definition of Partner Roles and Responsibilities

The respective roles of APETKKA and Lambi were clarified. Discussions focused on:

  • The responsibilities of APETKKA in implementing project activities;
  • Lambi’s role as the supporting organization;
  • Reporting requirements; and
  • Procedures and timelines for submitting reports on the credit fund and accrued interest.

4. Funding New Project

Lambi provided project funds to APETKKA totaling HTG 644,950.00 ($4965.00), allocated as follows:

  • HTG 625,000.00 for the agricultural credit fund;
  • HTG 19,950.00 for meals and refreshments during the training session.

5. Training on Agricultural Credit Management

APETKKA and Lambi engaged a consulting agronomist to facilitate a training seminar on Agricultural Credit Management Techniques. The training was conducted on April 24, 2026, and was attended by 30 members of the organization.

The training covered:

  • The context and importance of agricultural credit programs;
  • Training objectives;
  • Participatory training methodologies; and
  • Best practices in credit management.

6. Training Content

The seminar addressed the following topics:

  • Importance of credit in agricultural production;
  • Good practices in managing a credit fund;
  • Common mistakes and poor credit management practices;
  • Strategies to avoid misuse of credit resources;
  • Credit planning and allocation;
  • Loan repayment management; and
  • Risk identification and mitigation.

Training Results

As a result of the training, participants:

  • Improved their understanding of agricultural credit;
  • Learned how to prepare simple credit plans;
  • Developed the ability to identify risks and appropriate mitigation measures; and
  • Demonstrated a stronger commitment to disciplined management of the credit fund.

Training Recommendations

Participants recommended:

  • Continuing practical training opportunities for farmers;
  • Establishing a monitoring and follow-up system to support the application of knowledge gained; and
  • Promoting credit products adapted to the realities and needs of local farmers.

The training was highly successful and contributed significantly to strengthening the technical capacities of farmers in the area. Continued investment in such capacity-building initiatives will support the long-term development of local agriculture.

7. Distribution of Agricultural Credit

Agricultural credit was distributed to an additional 25 APETKKA members.

Each beneficiary received a loan of HTG 25,000.00 under the following conditions:

  • Interest rate: 2% per month
  • Loan term: 6 months

At the end of the repayment period, each beneficiary is required to repay:

  • Principal: HTG 25,000.00 ($200 USD)
  • Total interest: HTG 3,000.00 ($25 USD)

Therefore, the total repayment amount per beneficiary is HTG 28,000.00 ($225 USD).

During the period, management structures were discussed, project funds were transferred, training was delivered, and agricultural credit was distributed to beneficiaries.

Please continue to support this important initiative as it helps women build sustainable livelihoods and create lasting economic improvements for themselves and their families.
