Inmates Lack Proper Menstrual Hygiene Support

By Ugbede-Ojo Dominic Kadiri | Project Leader

Dear Donors,

We sincerely thank all our donors for their kindness and support toward the Reusable Pads for Women Inmates in Nigerian Prison project. Your generosity is greatly appreciated and gives hope to vulnerable women living in difficult prison conditions across Nigeria.

However, the donations received so far are still not enough to begin the project, and more support is urgently needed to start the first phase of pad distribution and menstrual hygiene support activities.

Female inmates in Kirikiri Prison in Lagos and Numan Prison in Adamawa continue to face serious shortages of menstrual hygiene supplies due to overcrowding and limited resources. Many incarcerated women struggle to access sanitary pads and are sometimes forced to depend on family support or unsafe improvised materials that can lead to discomfort, infections, and poor hygiene conditions.

Without proper menstrual care support, many women inmates remain vulnerable to health complications, emotional distress, and loss of dignity during incarceration.

This project is designed to provide 7,690 reusable sanitary pads to 1,538 women inmates across Nigeria’s two all-female prisons. Each woman will receive reusable pads designed to last between one and two years, helping provide a more reliable and sustainable menstrual hygiene option.

We remain grateful for the support received so far and hopeful that additional donations will make it possible to begin this important women’s health and dignity support project soon. In future reports, we hope to share updates and progress from the first phase of distribution activities.

Thank you once again for your kindness and continued support.

Sincerely,

Ugbede-Ojo Dominic Kadiri
