Restoring Dignity: Project Progress Report

IBC Kherson Aid in Action

Over the past three months, the Restoring Dignity - Advancing Accessibility & Relief project has supported over 6000 people affected by the war in Mykolaiv and Kherson. IBC provided weekly food packages and daily hot meals, drinkable water to families, elderly individuals, people with disabilities, and displaced women with children. Most of the food was delivered through IBC mobile bakery in Mykolaiv, which also reached remote villages in Kherson. In addition, hot meals were served daily at IBC Emergency Community Shelter, creating a safe and consistent support point for those in need.

At the same time, IBC focused on improving mobility and accessibility. IBC distributed over 130 mobility aids, including wheelchairs, walkers, crutches and assistive devices for hearing impaired ones. Initial assessments were done for people needing prosthetics, and in urgent cases, we helped with transportation to clinics. While we have not yet launched full prosthetic or surgical services mainly due to funding limits we continue to prioritize the most urgent cases and prepare for the next phase of implementation.

One of the people we supported is Halina, an 86-year-old woman from rural Kherson. Due to her age and health conditions, she had been bedridden for a long time and lacked sufficient support. After receiving regular food assistance and a walker from our team, Halina’s quality of life improved significantly, and she began to receive the care she needed. Her story clearly reflects the core aim of this project: practical help that brings real, life-changing support.

In the coming months, IBC aims to launch prosthetic fittings, reach more remote areas with mobility aid, and continue food relief based on security conditions and available funding. GlobalGiving’s support makes this work possible. Together, we are restoring not only basic needs, but also dignity, independence, and the hope of a better future leaving no one behind.

Restoring Mobility, Renewing Hope: Halina’s Story

Halina is an 86-year-old woman from a rural village near Kherson. Due to her age and health conditions, she was unable to walk on her own and was largely bedridden, relying on others for daily care. Isolated in her home, Halina struggled with limited mobility and a loss of independence.

Through the Restoring Dignity project, Halina received a walker and regular food deliveries. This simple but crucial support has made a big difference in her life. With the walker, Halina has started to move around her home with more confidence and less assistance, regaining a degree of independence she hadn’t experienced for a long time.

She shared with us, “This walker has given me hope and strength. I feel more like myself again.”

Halina’s story reflects the real impact of practical aid—helping people regain their mobility, dignity, and hope even in the hardest circumstances.
