Save a Life recently conducted a Mangrove Awareness Programme at Araly Hindu School, part of our Mangrove Guardian Project delivered in partnership with ChildFund Sri Lanka.
The session brought together students to explore the vital role mangrove ecosystems play in protecting Sri Lanka's coastlines, preserving biodiversity, and supporting local livelihoods. Through interactive discussions and hands-on learning activities, students examined how mangrove forests act as natural barriers against coastal erosion and storm surges, while also serving as nurseries for the marine life that many fishing communities depend on.
Facilitators guided students through discussions on sustainable resource use and the connection between healthy mangrove ecosystems and long-term community resilience. Students engaged actively with the material, asking questions and sharing observations from their own communities.
This programme reflects our continued commitment to environmental education as a pathway to conservation. By reaching young people early, we are cultivating a generation of environmentally conscious citizens who understand the ecosystems that sustain their communities.
