Project Report | Sep 2, 2026
We've officially planted 300 000 trees!

By Dominique Daruty | Partnerships Manager

Greenpop has just hit its latest milestone, having officially planted 300,000 trees!

We have come a long way since our goal of planting 1,000 trees back in 2010! Thanks to the trees Francois Krige, from @platbosforest, has planted since Reforest Fest, and the incredible contributions from all of you, we are celebrating 300,000 trees in the ground.

This isn't just a number; it’s a legacy of cleaner air, restored habitats, community collaboration and a greener future across Sub-Saharan Africa! But we’re not stopping here.

Forests for Life

Forests for Life is Greenpop's flagship programme for forest restoration and sustainable development. Beginning with a small-scale project in the Uilenkraal Valley in 2011, our work has grown into a long-term, multi-country commitment: today, we restore vital forest habitats and support local communities across South Africa, Malawi, Tanzania, and Zambia.

We believe restoration only works when it's done properly, not just planting trees, but restoring whole ecosystems, guided by careful species selection, local partnerships, and a rigorous, evidence-based approach we call our Six Rights framework. Every project is built to last for decades and benefit both people and the planet.

Our approach

We don’t just plant trees; we restore whole ecosystems. Using the internationally recognised Forest Landscape Restoration (FLR) framework and the principle of Bioregionalism, we ensure the right interventions are placed in the right locations to heal both people and the planet. Our approach is built on three pillars:

Ecological integrity: Restoring and protecting land based on its natural ecological boundaries. We focus on indigenous reforestation and alien vegetation management to build climate-resilient landscapes.

Community partnership: Working hand-in-hand with local partners who bring deep contextual and often indigenous knowledge, we ensure long-term, locally owned impact.

Sustainable livelihoods:  Integrating activities like agroforestry and beekeeping to ensure that restoration provides tangible economic benefits and food security for the people who steward the land.

Our impact to date

Since 2010, Greenpop has been dedicated to restoring our planet and connecting people with nature.

281 thousand trees planted in restoration projects.
           175 hectares under restoration.
         3 active implementation partners.
                      4 countries worked in.
