Africa Nature Organization today, the Saturday 12th March 2022, joined the Wasini Community in rebuilding the coral garden at Wasini Island. These are the first efforts of coral reef restoration at the island in the post-Covid-19 era.
It had taken at least a month of preparations in identifying a new site and assembling various materials necessary for constructing the blocks on which the coral discs will rest. Today, five of the community members, led by Mr. Ahmed, built 9 blocks from a mixture of cement, ballast, and sand. The other members who were involved in the activity were Mrs. Ali, Mrs. Mohamed, Mr. Kassim, and Mr. Rama.
The 9 blocks will cure for a week before they are transferred to the reef restoration area. The community targets to rehabilitate at least an acre of degraded reef area within Wasini Island. We, therefore, request your support and contribution to enable us to accomplish this task, via the link below.
