Dear supporter,

We are happy to share with you our accomplishments in the last couple of months.

After the earthquake, many people in the community of Junes, Río Pachiñé lost their dreams and plans, and there are many that have not been able to overcome the tragedy yet. This has prevented people from organizing and become involved in the solution of their damaged soil in order to build safe homes.

As a starting point for this project, we have created a community space for women and men, where they can express their concerns and how they would like to become involved in this rebuilding stage. Together, we came up with the following strategies:

  1. Attend community needs, such as the post-traumatic stress people are living in and the reactivation of the economy. We will try to provide more opportunities to craftswomen and bakers.
  2. Create a community refuge, that will serve as a meeting space, a community kitchen and a safe space for homeless people. We will build a pilot house that can function as a housing model for other families.
  3. Workshops in housing design with a gender perspective: We will establish a guideline on how to design a house that takes into consideration all the family members’ needs and the culture of the community.
  4. Create information units and raise public awareness about the geological risks of the community, through digital, audiovisual and graphic means.
  5. Create a network of specialized technicians interested in the reconstruction of the community at a state level.

Thank you so much for your support. We will continue updating you as our project moves forward.
