Title: Girls Challenging Gendered Expectations
Dear Friend and Partner,
Greetings from Gaba Hope for Kids.
Our mission is to empower and educate unprivileged children.
In our community, girls are told what they cannot do. They are told education is for boys. They are told their place is only at home. They are told to stay quiet when they need pads, when they are hurting, when they want to dream bigger.
At Gaba Hope for Kids, we meet girls who are challenging those expectations every day.
What Society Tells Her:
- A girl should not speak about menstruation
- A girl should stay home when she has her period
- A girl does not need many books, she will get married
- A girl cannot lead, she can only follow
What She Is Telling Us:
- I want to stay in school every day
- I want to learn, to read, to write, to lead
- I can make my own reusable pads and teach others
- I can mentor young girls and speak with confidence
- My period should not stop my future
What We Do To Support Her:
- Provide dignity kits: pads, underwear, and soap
- Create safe spaces where girls speak freely without shame
- Provide menstrual health and life skills education
- Train girls in reusable pad making as a skill and a source of income
- Provide mentorship, counseling, and leadership sessions
- Provide books, pens, and learning materials to keep her competitive in class
The Change We See:
- Girls who were shy now lead discussions in schools
- Girls who missed school now attend every day
- Girls who felt shame now teach others about dignity
- Girls who were told they cannot, now say I can
This is more than pads and books. This is about challenging what a girl is allowed to be.
How You Can Help:
- Support a girl with a dignity kit and learning materials
- Support our mentorship and leadership training for girls
- Support pad-making training to give girls skills and confidence
- Volunteer to be a positive role model
When a girl challenges one expectation, she opens the door for many more girls.
We are not asking for pity. We are asking for partnership.
