P joined Action for Autism (AFA) in September 2024. From the beginning, he showed a lot of excitement and love for coming to Ananda every day. He is always on time, follows his schedule well, and listens to instructions. P enjoys doing activities and takes pride in completing his tasks.
But when he first started, one of the main challenges we noticed was that he always wanted to rush. As soon as he finished one activity, he would ask for the next task card without any pause. He didn’t want to wait even for a few seconds. The same thing happened during his meals—he would finish lunch or snacks in just 5 minutes and then again ask for the next card. Waiting was very difficult for him.
To support him, we introduced simple strategies. We started using a “Wait” card along with a timer. This helped him understand that , it’s okay to pause before moving to the next thing. During breaks, especially during lunchtime, we avoided giving him any new task cards right away. This helped him learn to sit calmly and enjoy his food without feeling rushed.
With time and regular support, P started to show improvement. He slowly began to wait between activities, follow the timer, and take his meals at a more relaxed pace. Now, he doesn’t rush as much and is able to enjoy each part of his day more fully.
P has come a long way in just a few months. He is learning to be patient and flexible. We are very proud of his progress and are happy to see him grow each day. His journey is a beautiful example of how the right support and care can help someone reach their potential.
