Diwali Celebration at Ananda

By Kathakali Das Pandey | Project Leader

Festivals are something that everybody longs for and celebrates with great enthusiasm and excitement. Diwali- the festival of lights is one such festival that all residents look forward to and celebrate with Ambar family members.

The preparations of Diwali start 3-4 days before with a well thought out plan. The preparations are usually divided into what will be done, who is responsible for doing what, when and how the residents will be involved etc.Assists inform about the celebration and prepare residents using social stories, marking their calendars.

This year also the plan was similar, our Diwali preparation  started 4 days before. Residents along with the assists did cleaning and organising their rooms, common areas and the kitchen. Some of our residents were really excited from the previous day itself and decided on their attire.

The house was decorated beautifully by flowers, rangoli and the whole house was lit up with diyas. Residents painted colourful diyas at their workplace which were used in decorating the house. On the day of Diwali residents performed a puja and assists explained the significance of Diwali celebration. Some of the residents sang puja related songs and all of them performed aarti.

As Diwali is always connected with  sweets ,at Ambar also it was not less. All the residents and staff members  had a great time dancing and singing. The Diwali celebration ended with a lot of fun, sumptuous dinner and clicking nice pictures.
