In Guerrero, where violence, inequality, and disasters have deeply impacted communities, many stories remain unheard. This project will provide six months of community filmmaking training to youth and local residents through in-person and online workshops. With your support, participants will create two short films that reclaim their identity, amplify their voices, and help rebuild the social fabric. Here, film becomes a powerful tool for hope, memory, and collective transformation.
Access to audiovisual training in Guerrero is limited. Ongoing violence and deep socio-environmental challenges widen inequality gaps, excluding communities that want to reclaim and share their stories. As a result, many people are forced to migrate or abandon their creative aspirations due to the lack of local opportunities.
This project will launch a Community Film Residency in Guerrero, supporting 12 participants from different regions of the state. Over six months of in-person (Acapulco) and online workshops, they will receive hands-on training and professional mentorship to create two short films, strengthening their voices, memory, social bonds, and hope within their communities.
By engaging local creators, the project promotes the right to expression and education, strengthens cultural identity, and fosters collective participation while raising awareness of local issues. The resulting short films will contribute to collective memory, dignify communities through their own perspectives, and share these voices with the world through public screenings.
