Over the past three months, Parni+ has continued providing independent information and support to LGBTQ people in Russia and beyond. Despite increasing pressure from the Russian authorities and serious financial challenges, we have managed to keep our media platform and essential support services running.
The persecution of Parni+ did not end when Russian authorities designated our publication an “extremist organization.” Two additional administrative cases have recently been initiated against us, accusing our publication of “LGBT propaganda among minors.” These new cases demonstrate the ongoing risks faced by independent LGBTQ media reporting on the lives and experiences of our community in Russia.
Nevertheless, our work continues.
During this quarter, we published approximately 85 news articles and 26 analytical pieces, covering LGBTQ rights, health, community issues, and other topics important to our readers.
Our journalism reached approximately 1.1 million unique users, providing reliable information and helping LGBTQ people stay connected to their community.
We also continued offering individual counseling, psychological support, peer support groups, and SMART Recovery meetings.
Over the past three months, approximately 125 people received direct assistance through these services.
Unfortunately, reduced funding has forced us to scale back our counseling capacity. At the same time, the number of people seeking help continues to grow. We are doing our best to respond to every request and support those facing anxiety, violence, family rejection, forced migration, and other challenges.
Today, Parni+ remains more than an independent media outlet. It is also an important source of support for Russian-speaking LGBTQ people. As safe spaces and opportunities to access assistance become increasingly limited, our work is more important than ever.
We are deeply grateful to everyone who supports us through GlobalGiving.
