Mickaboo Mid-Year Summary - and an invitation

By Pamela Lee | Development Director

Fluffernutter, a splay-legged baby budgie
Fluffernutter, a splay-legged baby budgie

Mickaboo Companion Bird Rescue has been quite busy these past few months, with over 70 surrenders year-to-date, about half that in adoptions, and, sadly, a few that have gone over the Rainbow Bridge.

About half of this year's surrenders so far were budgies, small birds sometimes considered "disposable", not deserving of medical care costing many times a "new" bird's price. In other cases, the caregiver unintentionally gave ideal breeding conditions to their mixed-sex budgie flock - leading to a larger flock than the caregiver could realistically maintain. Fluffernutter, the very cute and very splay-legged baby budgie pictured here, is an example of what happens when an undesired breeding situation combines with the realism of vet bills.

Adoptions include Ralph, a Blue and Gold Macaw - watch the video we made about him here.  We are so happy for Ralph and his new family!

Meet some of our rescued birds "in person" this coming Saturday, June 20, 11:30 - 3:30 pm PT. We'll be behind the Museum of American History, 351 Homer Ave, Palo Alto. Learn from their foster parents about what life is like with these special birds! Learn about how to adopt or foster with Mickaboo. While you're there, learn how to make toys for birds!

Too far away to support us in person? Financial support is ALWAYS appreciated, paying for the veterinary and other needs of the 450+ birds under our wings.

Many thanks to ALL of you who support us year-round, in all the ways you can.
