Across Nigeria, stray dogs roam busy streets every day without a safe home or anyone to protect them. Many are struck by cars and motorcycles, leaving them with broken bones, open wounds and severe injuries. Some are left helpless by the roadside because no one stops to help or pay for veterinary care. This project will rescue dogs injured in road accidents, provide emergency veterinary treatment, medicines, surgery, food and a safe place to recover before adoption or release into safe care.
Across Nigeria, many stray dogs live and sleep along busy roads with no owner to protect them. Some are hit by cars or motorcycles and suffer broken bones, severe wounds, internal injuries or permanent disabilities. Injured dogs may remain by the roadside for hours or days without veterinary care, food or water. Public concern for stray animal welfare remains low in many communities, leaving road-injured dogs at risk of prolonged suffering, infection and death.
This project will rescue stray dogs injured in road accidents and transport them to veterinary clinics for immediate care. Each rescued dog will be examined and receive treatment based on its injuries, including wound care, medicines, X-rays, surgery and treatment for broken bones when needed. During recovery, the dogs will receive food, clean water and safe temporary shelter. Once recovered, we will seek responsible adopters or place them in safe long-term care.
This project will reduce the suffering and deaths of stray dogs injured on Nigerian roads while giving rescued animals a chance to recover and find safe homes. It will also encourage communities to report injured animals instead of leaving them helpless on the roadside. As more dogs receive veterinary care, vaccination and responsible adoption, the project can improve attitudes toward stray animals and promote greater compassion and responsible treatment of dogs in Nigeria.
