Hi!
It has been all hands on deck since our last report as the monsoon brought chaos to our beloved street dogs!
During and after the annual monsoon rains, thousands of flies and insects lay their eggs into any tiny scratch or wound they can find on an animal. When the eggs hatch, the larvae start to eat the surrounding flesh. By the time some of these dogs reach TOLFA they have suffered severe injuries due to the maggots infested in their skin.
The worst thing is that many of the maggot wounds are located around the head and neck so that the dog can't lick them clean. It causes great pain and distress to the dog and they may run from their own territories to escape the crawling sensation. They can then come into conflict with other dogs, get confused by unfamiliar surroundings and get hit in traffic accidents.
It is a very trying time for us as we are inundated with dogs, and other animals, with terrible wounds. BUT, with your support we helped hundreds of dogs that would otherwise have been left to suffer. Thank You.
The photos show beautiful Devon who was admitted with a maggot wound on the head. It took several weeks of daily care and attention but it is now all healed up. In the last photo he is with our staff member Lakhan, ready to release Devon, who has also been sterilised and rabies-vaccinated during his stay.
Since January this year we have admitted over 3,700 dogs and puppies for treatment, and this is all possible due of the generosity of our supporters.
In the run up to to Christmas we are selling TOLFA 2019 Calendars and other gift items through our eBay for Charity store - please do have a look and get some Christmas shopping ticked off your list - www.tolfa.org.uk/ebay
Thank you so much for your support, and a Merry Chritsmas from everyone at TOLFA
