Refugee Rescue 2019 Report

As media looks the other way, people are still being forced to take what is now one of the world’s most deadly migratory routes. Only in the first half of January 2020, 29 people have died attempting this journey, and more remain missing.

Refugee Rescue is now the only remaining professional and humanitarian search and rescue organisation operating in the whole of the Aegean Sea. Our skilled volunteer boat crew and land team are on call 24/7, ready to respond in the event of an emergency.

In 2018, our crews assisted 52 boats, carrying over 568 men (32%), 425 women (24%) and 774 children (44%). We assisted a total of 1809 people.

In 2019, our crews assisted 125 boats, carrying over 1382 men (30%), 1043 women (22%) and 2243 children (48%). We assisted a total of 5015 people
