Rescue 23 Girls from the clutches of Traffickers

Meera is a young girl from a village in Madhya Pradesh who grew up in a community where sex work has continued across generations. Her elder sister had also entered sex work, and as Meera grew older, she faced the possibility of being expected to follow the same path.

But Meera wanted a different future for herself.

Choosing a different path was not easy. For generations, girls in her community had grown up with limited choices, and there were very few examples around Meera of girls who had challenged these traditions and built independent lives.

Yet, Meera refused to give up on her dreams.

With the support of people like you, and constant encouragement from our team on the ground, Meera found the courage to continue her education and work towards a future on her own terms.

From an early age, she remained committed to her studies. She completed her education up to Grade 8 in her village and later secured admission to a school located farther away. Despite the long distance and financial difficulties, she continued to study and work hard.

The pressure to follow the traditional path did not come only from within her family. People in the community often questioned the value of educating girls and encouraged families to continue established practices. During this time, Meera found strength in the support of her family, her sisters, and our youth group. The youth group provided her with a safe space to express herself, build confidence, and speak openly about her dreams.

Her mother also became part of a women’s Self-Help Group, where she received support and opportunities to strengthen the family’s livelihood. This helped create a more supportive environment at home for Meera to continue her education.

Meera dreams of building a career in healthcare. However, her village did not have the educational opportunities she needed to pursue this dream. At the same time, the pressure on her to follow the traditional path was increasing. It therefore became important for her to move away from these circumstances and study in a safe and supportive environment.

When Meera got the opportunity to apply to a prestigious university in another state which also had the hostel facility, she prepared seriously for the entrance examination. Her hard work paid off, and in 2024, she successfully cleared the entrance examination.

Today, Meera is pursuing a B.Sc. in Nursing at a prestigious university.

Her journey from a small village to higher education represents much more than an academic achievement. It is a significant step towards breaking an intergenerational cycle that had limited the choices available to women and girls in her family.

For Meera, education is more than a route to a career. It has given her something that many women before her did not have, the opportunity to choose her own future.
