In the heart of our township, where life can be harsh and unforgiving, a dedicated team fights for the well-being of our four-legged companions. This project is more than a mission—it’s a lifeline for the voiceless.
The Challenge
Things are looking bleak but as a team we remain positive that we will find away back. It is winter in South Africa and Cape Town is going through a critical weather period. The South Africa authorities have issued a Level 8 Warning and sadly our project HQ is not prepared. We also sadly don’t have time to fundraise as it is all hands to the rescue right now!
Starting on 6th July and 23 days later and still getting out of control rain our team have been doing damage control with this bitterly cold, soaking wet weather in an attempt to most importantly, keep all our animals dry, safe and warm. But it's getting real bad, real fast now and the weather isn’t lifting.
Our rehab centre, dog haven where our rehabilitation puppies stay while we try to re-home them along with our treatment centres are all flooding and so our team have been appealing to local farmers and community members to help and it is amazing to see people donating straw bales to help soak up water and blankets to keep our animals warm, one local lady even comes past every week takes all the wet and muddy blankets and washes and dry’s them in her house and returns them, it really is all hands on deck.
As the local townships begin to flood and homes get ripped apart by the weather our team remains on standby for emergency call outs and in just one day we had 20 emergency call outs to rescue animals in the local township. We have also had an extreme number of emergency cases that has needed vet support and as such we now have a 200,000ZAR bill at the vets with all our donated money already spent, we don’t know how we will pay this but right now we have to respond to the crisis we are facing.
If you are local or know anyone local then we are also accepting donations of blankets, dog food and stray bales at this urgent time, any help is welcome as we get through this cold and critical time please just reply to our email. In a world where darkness sometimes prevails, we choose compassion. We choose to save puppies. Thank you for being part of this journey. Remember, it’s not just about dogs; it’s about humanity.
