Trafficking of girls from Benue State to Mali, Burkina Faso, and other countries is rising. More than 300 girls were rescued between March and June 2026, showing the scale of the crisis. This project will identify girls at risk, support rescue efforts, provide temporary shelter, medical care, counselling, family reunification, education, and livelihood training to help survivors rebuild their lives and reduce future trafficking.
Girls from Benue State are being trafficked to Mali, Burkina Faso, and other countries through false promises of jobs, education, or marriage. More than 300 girls were rescued between March and June 2026, showing the scale of the crisis. Many others remain trapped in exploitation while poverty, unemployment, and weak protection systems continue to place more girls at risk.
This project will identify girls at risk, support rescue efforts with local partners, and provide temporary shelter, food, medical care, trauma counselling, legal assistance, and family reunification. Survivors will receive education or vocational training to help them earn a safe income, while community volunteers and local leaders will help identify trafficking risks and report suspected cases before more girls are taken.
The project will help reduce the trafficking of girls from Benue State by supporting rescue, rehabilitation, and safe reintegration. Survivors will gain education, job skills, and income opportunities that lower the risk of being trafficked again. Stronger community reporting and family support will protect more girls, while successful prosecution of traffickers will discourage future crimes and improve child protection.
