Love Band Friendship
Love Band Friendship

Hi,

A weaved bracelet called “Loved Band” became the symbol of SDC … A united effort between French and Philippines volunteers and SDC staff taught the children different bracelet weaving techniques. Thanks to this small livelihood project they learn how promote it to visitors, buy things they want out the benefits they made, and save up for their family. In addition, trough out the sells made in different selling points in Bacolod City and in France, extra profit was made and given entirely towards educational cause in SDC… This project changed the dynamic of the children getting motivated to produce, to market, to save up, to manage materials, to weave in a clean environment, and follow direction and instruction to make good quality products. And when special VIP come to the center, bracelets are given as a sign of constant friendship…

The French Ambassador himself received a Love Band during his visit. His venue gave visibility and recognition to the work done in the center, and the impact it has on the Children. Stakeholders and political personalities as the City Mayor were here to witness it.

A group a French volunteer came for 3 months to do building renovation and improvements, but most importantly transferring their construction knowledge to some children. All together they painted the entire center, completely renovate the girl quarter, made wooden lookers and improved the outdoor area… With the new skills they learn, the selected Children not only had more confidence into themself, but it created in some of them passion for carpentry, leadership, and respect to the work well done… During this same period a complete health check-up by a French volunteer doctor and specific treatment were given to all children supplemented by donation of sleeping materials, hygiene and clothing to completed the process and finally have a cozier place with better privacy in a healthier environment…

In order to strengthen the ties between the staff and the children, a basketball tournament was organized where staff and children were mixed into teams. The winners received goods to share and medals, and the best team spirit persons were also rewarded. Love band symbol remain all around this tournament…

The end of the alternative school year finished culminates with the participation of 21 children to the ALS exam, result I will come later one. New school year started with practical education 3 times a week in addition to the alternative school 2 times a week, which will definitely put education to another level, and hopefully gives a good step up into the reinsertion phase when children are back to their communities… Extra time and dedication is given to the illiterate group that despite their ages, some of them avail first schooling experience.

Using art as a form of expression and individual development, remain always a focus in the Center. This semester, it’s a contest on “What my stay in SDC is bringing me?” with to mean of expression “Essay” and “Song lyrics” writing… The result was just amazing on how talented they are when they are given a chance to express themselves, and a real testimony on how impactful and life changing can be the SDC… It’s also encourage all stakeholders to pursue or common mission to help the street children that Global Giving donors and supporters are definitely part of. You also deserve this Love Band!

Thank you every one for your support!
