Sexual abuse and gender-based violence remain pervasive in Ethiopia, silencing thousands of young girls who suffer in shame and fear. Many victims face rejection, trauma, or are forced into early marriage. "Release Sobbing Daughters from Sexual Abuse" seeks to break this silence and provide hope, healing, and justice for girls and young women who have suffered abuse. Over 6 years, FUGAO will establish safe rehabilitation centers, deliver trauma-informed care, empower survivors with education.
Pressing Problem 1 in 3 Ethiopian girls experience sexual violence before age 18. Fear of stigma and retaliation prevents victims from reporting abuse. Survivors often lack access to medical, legal, or psychological support. Poverty, displacement, and weak enforcement exacerbate vulnerability.
Our Solution Over 6 years, the project will: Establish 6 Safe Daughters Centers (one in each region) Deliver trauma counselling to 10,000 survivors Provide vocational skills training for 2,000 girls Conduct community awareness campaigns reaching 1 million people Support 500 survivors through education scholarships Facilitate legal aid for 3,000 cases of abuse
Expected Long-Term Impact by 2031 10,000 survivors receive care, healing, and justice. 2,000 girls reintegrated through education and work. 1 million community members sensitized on prevention and rights. 6 operational Safe Daughters Centers sustained by local partnerships. Reduced rates of sexual violence and stigma in project regions.
