Release Sobbing Daughters from Sexual Abuse #73096

By Riste Zenebe | Finance Manager

Dear GlobalGiving Community, Warm greetings from Face Up Generation Aid Organization (FUGAO). We sincerely apologize for the delay in submitting this report and appreciate your patience and continued support. We are honored to share progress on our project, “Release Sobbing Daughters from Sexual Abuse (#73096)”, which is dedicated to restoring dignity, healing, and hope to vulnerable girls and women affected by sexual abuse in Ethiopia. Project Overview Over the past quarter, our project has focused on prevention, protection, and rehabilitation for survivors of sexual abuse. In a context where many victims suffer in silence due to stigma, fear, and lack of support systems, this initiative provides a safe pathway toward healing and empowerment. Our mission remains clear: to protect vulnerable girls, support survivors, raise awareness, and strengthen community responsibility in ending sexual abuse. Progress So Far (December 2025 – February 2026) The project has been implemented in selected communities across Addis Ababa and surrounding areas, reaching: • Survivors of sexual abuse • At-risk girls and adolescents • Parents and caregivers • Community, faith, and youth leaders Through counseling, awareness campaigns, training, and community engagement, we are creating safer and more responsive environments. Major Achievements 1. Survivor Support & Rehabilitation • Provided psychosocial counseling services to 85 survivors of sexual abuse • Supported 30 girls with emergency assistance (safe shelter, medical referrals, and basic needs) • Established 3 survivor support groups for peer healing and encouragement 2. Awareness & Prevention • Conducted 10 community awareness sessions reaching over 520 participants • Delivered school-based education programs on child protection and reporting mechanisms • Distributed educational materials addressing sexual abuse prevention and response 3. Capacity Building • Trained 60 community and faith leaders on safeguarding, child protection, and survivor-centered approaches • Equipped local volunteers with skills to identify and respond to abuse cases • Strengthened referral pathways with local service providers 4. Advocacy & Community Engagement • Facilitated dialogues to challenge stigma and harmful cultural norms • Promoted community responsibility in protecting girls and reporting abuse • Encouraged collaboration between families, leaders, and institutions Early Impact & Stories of Change Restoring Hope – Addis Ababa A 16-year-old survivor, once withdrawn and fearful, began attending counseling sessions. Today, she is back in school and actively participates in peer support discussions. She shared: "I thought my life was over, but now I see a future again." Breaking the Silence – Community Awareness In one community, parents and leaders openly discussed sexual abuse for the first time. This has led to increased reporting and stronger protective measures for children. Empowered Voices – Young Girls Girls who participated in awareness sessions are now more confident in speaking up and seeking help when faced with unsafe situations. Challenges Encountered Despite progress, we faced several challenges: • Cultural stigma and silence surrounding sexual abuse • Limited safe shelters for survivors • Economic hardship affecting consistent participation • Increasing demand for counseling services beyond current capacity However, through strong partnerships and adaptive strategies, we continue to move forward. What’s Next? (March – May 2026) In the coming months, FUGAO plans to: • Expand survivor counseling services to reach 120 additional beneficiaries • Establish 2 more safe support spaces for girls • Train 100 more community leaders and volunteers • Strengthen school-based protection programs • Launch a Youth Advocates for Protection Initiative • Increase collaboration with legal and health institutions Sustainability & Long-Term Vision This project is designed for lasting impact by: • Building community-based protection systems • Strengthening local leadership and accountability • Empowering survivors to become advocates • Promoting behavioral and cultural change • Establishing long-term support networks By 2030, we aim to significantly reduce vulnerability to sexual abuse and ensure safer environments for girls across Ethiopia. Why This Project Matters Sexual abuse not only harms individuals—it damages families, communities, and the future of a nation. This project provides: • Healing where trauma exists • Protection where vulnerability persists • Awareness where silence dominates • Hope where despair once lived Every contribution makes a difference: • $25 provides counseling support for one survivor • $75 supports a community awareness session • $150 assists emergency care for a vulnerable girl • $500 funds survivor support programs • $5,000 expands protection services across communities Monitoring & Evaluation To ensure accountability and effectiveness, we use: • Case tracking and follow-up • Counseling progress assessments • Attendance and participation records • Community feedback sessions • Regular field monitoring visits Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) • 85 survivors received counseling • 520+ individuals reached through awareness sessions • 60 leaders trained • 30 girls supported with emergency assistance • 3 survivor support groups established Together, We Are Restoring Dignity We extend our heartfelt gratitude to the GlobalGiving community, donors, and partners for standing with us in this critical mission. Your support is helping transform pain into healing, silence into voice, and vulnerability into strength. Together, we are protecting daughters, restoring hope, and building safer communities—one life at a time. With deep appreciation, Face Up Generation Aid Organization (FUGAO) "Every girl deserves safety, dignity, and a future free from fear."
