One hand the continued pandemic Covid 19 and frequent cyclones Amphan, Yaas, Jawad etc. destroyed the lives and livelihoods of the vulnerably exposed marginalised communities of Sundarbans but on the other gave them and the wider communities the options to consolidate their own lives and livelihoods and build a strong resilience network within themselves.
The initiatives of creating Mangrove Sensitive Communities and Mangrove Protection Groups have created a strong integrated approach among the wider impacted communities in riverine and coastal Sundarbans.
The communities are now proactive in protecting their own planted Mangrove Saplings across various vulnerable spots.
Now the soil is ploughed around the planted saplings for good and strong growth of tree roots. Saplings are watered and shaded.
The community is now determined to establish a strong resilience for their own protection and survival.
Being a rooted Civil Society Organization from Sundarbans we are consistent in our efforts to support them as well with seeds, saplings and close monitoring, sharing views etc.
This will enhance the ecological protection movement among the people and will also contribute strengthening the resilience
APPEAL
Our efforts are prolonged and consistent one which gradually will have a long term contribution in the ecology of the Sundarbans – The World Heritage Site.
But strong possibilities are there of future sudden and frequent cyclones or heavy showers that may have deeper and sudden impacts among these vulnerable marginalised communities.
So we need to have more penetrating wide reaching actions to make the Resilience stronger.
WE APPEAL TO ALL OUR SUPPORTERS NOT ONLY TO EXTEND SUPPORTS BUT ALSO STAND BY US AND CONVEY THE MESSAGES OF OUR NEEDS IN WIDER COMMUNITIES.
