Bulbul aftermath: People are still struggling to reach to normalcy

By Team - 'Sabuj Sangha' | Coordinations

Fallen Electric Poles and Distribution Mediums
Fallen Electric Poles and Distribution Mediums

In consequence to the immediate response of ‘Bulbul’ cyclonic storm ‘Sabuj Sangha’ team continue reaching out the impacted villages under Mathurapur II, Patharpratima, Namkhana and Sagar Blocks of South 24 Parganas.

As observed the impacts are grave and have long term consequence which needs immediate interventions. Roofs of many houses are either gone with the wind or found broken by the heavy tree trunks fallen upon. The water in the local ponds and other small reservoirs has become contaminated with the saline waters and/ or also with other dirt around.

Many have taken refuge in the community based shelter camps at the closest School Buildings/ Flood Centres/ Community Centres/ ICDS (Integrated Child Development) Centres etc. Vast area in most of the villages is now without any electricity. Many of the community are still under the Open Sky endangering the safety, security and dignity (specifically the women).

The main livelihood resource Cultivation (majorly Vine Beetle and Paddy) - has gone spoilt at the ripening season ahead. Food Grains, daily utility items e.g. Clothes, Books, Bedding Materials etc. also are not in much so that it can be used for a longer period. Communications with other areas also disrupted with the main approach roads got closed.

As immediate requirement ‘Sabuj Sangha’ team has moved into the community to reach out with immediately needed items including Tarpaulins, Ropes, Sanitary Napkins, Food Materials (Biscuit packets, Rice, Cooking Oil, Pulse, Salt, Turmeric Powder, Potatoes etc.).

Medical Camps are organized in the communities as immediate essentiality. Doctors with Robust team of Health Assistants are consistently reaching out the remote toughly accessible areas where people are at dire need

Sabuj Sangha intends to keep on distributing these items with many more other materials like- Blankets, Mosquito Nets, Solar Lanterns, Solar Community Lights to the impacted areas. We have plans to reach out vast spread all affected communities.

Besides Rehabilitation initiatives are also needed to start which we have planned also.

We Appeal everybody to please extend their support and stand by the people who are struggling to restore to normalcy.

Please Help ! Stand by the People in dire need!
