Challenge

Arua City faces rising insecurity with theft, robbery, child neglect and mob justice. Over 20 childrensuspected of petty theft and robbery have been killed since 2019. Vulnerable children from poor families face neglect, drop out of school, and early marriages are rampant in the city. Police attempt to follow, ends short as parents can't follow up cases because of shame. Our project seeks to rehabilitate, protect, and empower these children, breaking the cycle of violence and vulnerability.

Solution

The project will establish a center that's solar-powerered offering early childhood education, day care, rehabilitation, and inclusive recreation for vulnerable children. It will provide therapy, psychosocial support, vocational training for youth and caregivers, and mobile outreach to remote areas. It also features, conferences, accomodation, social enterprises and eco-tourism to sustain low-cost services for the most at-risk children. Care givers are trained on knowledge.

Long-Term Impact

The project will reduce child neglect, school dropout, early marriage, and disability stigma. It will initially take and empower 100 and next 2 years 200 until the targeted 5,000 children and 1000 caregivers with education, care, and skills. Long-term, it will lower street crime, improve family stability, and foster inclusion in Arua district and nearby rural areas. The center will serve as a model for child-focused, community-led development that can be scaled across Uganda.
