Bringing Hope and Healing to Palabek Refugee Settlement

In the heart of Lamwo District in northern Uganda, Palabek Refugee Settlement is home to thousands of resilient refugees, mostly from South Sudan, who have shown incredible strength in rebuilding their lives after conflict. While the journey hasn’t been easy, the community’s spirit and determination to support one another have been remarkable.

Through I Live Again Uganda/Global Mental Health Alliance trauma counseling and mental health programs, refugees are not only finding ways to cope with past experiences, they are rediscovering hope, confidence, and connection. Over the past months:

  • Hundreds of individuals have participated in individual counseling sessions, learning practical tools to manage stress and anxiety.
  • Group therapy sessions have fostered supportive friendships, allowing people to share experiences, celebrate small victories, and uplift one another.
  • Workshops on resilience and emotional wellbeing have empowered children, youth, and adults to recognize their own strength and develop coping strategies for daily life.

One young mother shared, “The counseling has helped me feel calm and strong again. I can care for my children with hope for the future.” Stories like hers are happening every day, as refugees discover that healing is possible and community bonds are a powerful source of support.

With ongoing support from donors like you, more people in Palabek can access life-changing counseling and guidance, helping them turn the page from trauma to resilience, and build brighter futures for themselves and their families. Your generosity is planting seeds of hope that are already taking root.

Thank you for your support!
