A few months back, we shared loads of photos and a number of testimonies. Today, the numbers are in. And we want to show you in numbers the impact that your donation has had.
As you know, together with the community we built: 30 dry bathrooms, 90 wood-conserving biomass cook stoves and 20 community gardens, thanks to your support. Our pre-post evaluation has now gotten these additional numbers:
77%: This is the increase in healthy behaviors that we have seen in the community to date as a result of the project. From using open fires less often or eliminating them entirely, to beginning to use eco stoves and participating in their maintenance.
49%: This is the increase in healthy sanitation behaviors. Including using dry toilets and keeping them clean.
Not only that, but the vast majority of the community members surveyed expressed a strong preference for the eco stoves. Respiratory illnesses are decreasing, women are experiencing less back problems and firewood use is being optimized.
And because we want to make sure you are always hearing directly from participants, here goes another testimony from the mountains: “We really like the dry toilets, hopefully we can install more together. When the heavy rains come and we in the toilet, it doesn´t get flooded”.
The funds are running out for this project and there is still much work remaining to reach additional communities in the mountains and empower communities for their health and environmentalism. Will you give more today and ask a friend to do the same?
