Disaster Relief and Recovery

By Clare Hedger | Partnerships Team

Your donation means Red Cross can be there to help people during disasters and other emergencies in Australia. It enables us to prepare people, provide comfort and care during a disaster or emergency, and support recovery.

In an emergency, we all need someone to turn to.

When extreme becomes the new norm, we know where to start

Whether it’s a flood, a bushfire, a cyclone or any other emergency, Red Cross is there to help communities prepare for, respond to, and recover from disasters.

Our climate is changing. Disasters are becoming more frequent and intense. That’s why it’s so important we are ready.

Right now, our teams are on the ground supporting people impacted by flooding along the Victoria, Daly and McArthur rivers in the Northern Territory:

  • 49 Red Cross personnel have supported 665 people at the Howard Springs Centre for National Resilience (CNR)
  • Red Cross teams are providing support in evacuation centres including psychological first aid for affected people
  • Flood school continues to be operated on-site in Howard Springs, with Red Cross personnel assisting with helping children to attend.

And in the last year, here’s what else your support has made possible:

  • 300,000+ people supported before, during, and after disasters
  • 1,683 team members and volunteers activated across 42 emergencies
  • 10,090 people registered through our Register.Find.Reunite service, which helps people impacted by disasters let their loved ones know they are safe

Thank you so much, from the bottom of our hearts, for your support.
