Project Report | Nov 2, 2020
9 month report

By Mitchell Jones | 9 month Report

Thank you again for your generous donations to Australia Red Cross. Attached are our 6 month and 9 month reports which highlight our progress to date in disbursing donations, some inspiring stories of recovery and challenges faced to date.

As of 29 October 2020, Australian Red Cross has spent or disbursed $178 million.

Since July, 722 people applied for a bushfire grant from Red Cross for the first time. Some of these people had been living off the grid in remote locations, without a fixed address and with little access to the internet. Others felt there were people 'more deserving' of the money than they were. Others said they didn't yet feel ready to start rebuilding, so held off applying for funds.

These stories remind us that recovery journies are a marathon, not a sprint. Red Cross has made minimum three-year commitments to affected communities and will be there every step of the way walking alongside communities as they navigate these next steps in their lives.
