Middle East Crisis Appeal

As hostilities escalate across the Middle East, humanitarian needs continue to grow.

• More than 130 armed conflicts are recorded globally – more than double the number just 15 years ago
• Over 120 million people are forcibly displaced worldwide – among the highest levels ever recorded
• Children account for roughly 40% of all forcibly displaced people globally, highlighting the long-term social impact of displacement

These figures underscore why neutral, impartial and sustained humanitarian action is more critical than ever. When protection is upheld, lives are saved. When dignity is respected, recovery becomes possible.

Because of you, this humanitarian presence endures. Red Cross teams and humanitarian workers can respond rapidly to emergencies, adapt to evolving forms of conflict, and remain alongside communities through the long and uncertain road of recovery.

Your donation to the Middle East Crisis Appeal has helped provide emergency relief and longer-term humanitarian support to people and communities affected by the crisis.

• During July to December 2025, Australian Red Cross supported 27 international deployments, placing skilled specialists into critical roles across healthcare, protection, emergency coordination and water and sanitation.
• These deployments strengthened response capacity in some of the world’s most complex crises including Gaza whilst building local capability that continues long after emergency teams’ step back.
• Recently, Australian Red Cross nurse delegates Anne-Maree Furner and Jean-Philippe (JP) Miller received the Florence Nightingale Medal.

Presented by Her Excellency the Honourable Ms Sam Mostyn AC, Governor General of Australia and Patron of Australian Red Cross, the award recognises the exceptional courage, devotion, and service by a nurse in situations of armed conflict, disaster, and profound human need.
