Expressing through Recreational Activities

All work and no play makes Jack a dull boy! It is no different for our children as well. In the midst of all the therapy programs and intervention sessions, our children tend to get bored. To help mitigate this, we have included different recreational activities including weekend hobby classes. Not only will these activities help us ease their boredom, but will also help them improve their hand eye coordination (sports), gross and fine motor skills (through grasping during sports), vocalisation ability (music), eye contact (theater) and a host of other things.

As one of our recreational activities, our children participated in Splash 2019 - the annual sit-and-draw art competition organized by Concern India Foundation, for children with special needs. This event was held in Bal Bhavan, Cubbon Park, Bangalore, India and our children had a great time putting pen/pencil/colours to paper and bring out their artisitic side. It was an eventful and fun activity for them, on the whole!

Apart from events that act as recreational activities for our kids, we conduct theater classes, music classes, sports classes, and a few of our kids are getting trained in badminton as well. These are in addition to some exposure visits which happen on a periodic basis apart from occasion specific outings and picnics for the children. On the occasion of Children's Day, we had taken our children to India's first interactive music museum, the Indian Music Experience. Here, they go to see a wide range of musical instruments, each with a history steeped in culture and roots of its native country of origin. They also got to listen to recorded renditions of various genres of music by musicians belonging to a range of styles and gharanas as well as time periods. The visit was a great diversion from their regular routine of therapies and interventions and the children were thrilled to experience something of this scale.

With your regular contribution, more such recreational activities and outings can be organized for our children. This will greatly ensure a healthy balance of core therapy, auxiliary therapies, and recreational activities is maintained which will positively impact the functioning of our children's cognitive abilities.
