Dear friends,
More than two years have passed since the earthquake hit the region of the Isthmus of Tehuantepec in Oaxaca, the women of Niltepec have managed to strengthen themselves and move forward step by step. Nevertheles, we still need one last effort to reach the goal.
With the help of GlobalGiving’s crowdfunding, 16 kitchens have been rebuilt and equipped with an oven made of clay, sand and block, which is heated with firewood and charcoal, artisanally producing the region's classic “totopos” (tortilla chips), made with their own corn, and serve to accompany meals.
Recently, the women were helped by giving them tortilla-totoperas machines that facilitates the production of the totopo, increasing production by up to 40% and therefore their daily profit and the possibility of improving their living conditions.
The commercialization of totopos, which can be between 300 and 400 pieces a day, with their kitchens and ovens, represents the main source of income for women in the area.
With this project and thanks to all of you, we are really changing these people's lives.
Let's make it possible and continue supporting the well-being of Oaxaca families that are bonded with Fundación Origen
