Thanks to this campaign in GlobalGiving, there has been considerable progress regarding the Project. Nowadays we have developed a pilot oven and several kitchen spaces in the municipalities of Santiago Niltepec and San Francisco Ixhuatán, both take place in the state of Oaxaca, Mexico. This pilot oven is now being tested to analyze the negative impact on women health by reducing the heat, gas emmision, wood reduction (which helps the environment)…. Based on these results results, the new ovens will be reproduced in every kitchen.
The women that will be the beneficiaries of the kitchens and ovens are completely involved in this whole project; from designing the kitchens according to their specific needs to the technology that will be used in the new ovens. We have made a lot of progress but there´s plenty more we have to do and we will continue to improve the life quality of the women and the communities by rebuilding their kitchens and helping them to regain their jobs as "totopo" makers and reactivate their economy.
