World Environment Day 2026

By Kate Hampson | Program Manager

In June, Kyeema PNG celebrated World Environment Day by supporting two events focused on climate action, environmental awareness and hands-on learning.

At the National Capital District Commission’s World Environment Day event at Ela Beach, our team showcased Kyeema’s coastal restoration work and led practical demonstrations on mangrove propagation and coral reef restoration. We were honoured to welcome the Hon. Powes Parkop, Governor of the National Capital District, who joined participants in learning about coral restoration techniques and visited our display.

Students from local schools also took part, learning about the important role healthy coastal ecosystems play in protecting communities and supporting livelihoods.

Our team also visited Edai Christian School, where students explored the importance of climate action and environmental stewardship. One of the highlights of the day was seeing students make personal pledges to help protect the environment in their own communities.

World Environment Day serves as an important reminder that meaningful climate action begins with knowledge, community participation and a shared commitment to protecting the places we call home.
